The flu affects humans and animals in the same manner. It is an upper respiratory infection and like the human flu age is not a factor. Anybody can get the flu; any cat can get the flu. They do not need to have all the symptoms, just some of them.

The symptoms may include:

Eye inflammation otherwise called conjunctivities. My dog had a case of conjunctivitis which required medicated drops to remove the redness from the whites of his eyes, and the watery film. Your cat will have the same, but possiby include a heavier discharge. If the discharge is heavy this would mean that there is a bacterial infection.

Nose has a watery discharge and there may be some sneezing or coughing.

Your cat may have a fever. Check the temperature of the cat using a rectal thermometer. If higher than 101 there is a problem.

Your cat may loose its appetite. With nasal drainage your cat cannot smell its food and will stop eating, Try feeding your cat strong smelling sardines.
