Most older dogs develop this to some extent, and the severity that affects your own pet depends on a few different factors, including what breed of dog he is, the genetics of your dog, and also his diet throughout his life. Read on to learn about some things that you can do to gain some control over your dogs arthritis problem in order to lessen his pain and make him more comfortable in his senior years. arthritis dogs review

First of all, arthritis in dogs is a degenerative condition that weakens the connective tissue in your dogs joints. The kind of osteoarthritis found in dogs is the same kind that humans get, with the same symptoms. Once the disease is present, there is no known remedy, however, there are several treatments available that can lessen the impact of arthritis and make your dog more comfortable.
In general, larger dog breeds are more prone to arthritis than smaller dogs, simply because their extra weight puts extra pressure and work on their joints. While you cannot control the breed of a dog (unless you mate specific dogs to produce certain breeds of course), you can control their eating habits so that they don’t become overweight and exert more stress than they need to on their joints throughout their lives. Being strict with their diet and ensuring that they get plenty of regular exercise will go a long way toward keeping your dog at a healthy weight throughout its life.

What Healthy Food Should Dogs be Fed?

Feeding a dog should be taken with seriousness and a careful eye in reading ingredients and a strong backing of nutrient knowledge. Whatever food is given to the dog will later on manifest itself either through a healthy response of strength and energy or a downward turn of weakness and poor appearance. As people are concerned with what goes into their bodies, the same should carry to their pets. Probably the very basic rule of feeding a dog is “do not feed your dog something you would not eat yourself.” Although it must be kept in mind that not all human foods are good for dogs.

Scanning or going over the small print of ingredients on canned products may be helpful to a certain point but it would even be better to know what should go into a healthy meal. Experts have come to a consensus that the best ratio of food is 40% meats, 50% veggies and 10% carbohydrates or even grains. Meats found in canned goods have already been pre-cooked and contain the protein needed by dogs. One must take note of what brands are certified by the animal health ministry of what should or should not be in dog food. Some cheaper brands may throw chicken beaks into the mix which is considered to be indigestible. Cheaper foods are known to add fillers to give more weight and volume into the cans but these fillers may consist of other foods that dogs may be allergic to such as corn or wheat. Grains are much more preferred due to its optimum fiber content to meet the digestive needs. Again, careful reading of the ingredients is needed for the first items may be meats but if careless owners just toss it in the trolley, they missed the other items that are more fillers.

Parvovirus – The Most Deadly Virus For Dogs

One of the most common viral diseases in dogs is the Parvovirus. The word Parvo is Latin for small, and only a few grams of feces can contain upwards of millions of virus particles. Ever since the late 1970′s, this virus has wreaked havoc on dogs the world over, and caused many unforeseen deaths as it can be transmitted by direct, or even indirect, contact with dog vomit or feces from another infected dog. It is extremely important to get your dog vaccinated for Parvovirus so that you can be assured your dog will live a long healthy life with you.

While the symptoms of the Parvovirus may take 7 to 10 days before they become noticeable, any dog owner that is paying attention will notice the loss of appetite and lack of energy in the early stages. Once you notice this, you should take your dog in to have it checked out. If you wait to see if your dog gets better, there is a good chance that this slight change will take a drastic turn and cause your pet severe issues like massive dehydration and malnutrition. After the initial symptoms of appetite and energy are seen, your dog will start to display a wider range of symptoms including a high fever, vomiting, and bloody diarrhea. If your dog is showing these signs, you need immediate medical attention as soon as possible.

While the Parvovirus can infect adult dogs, it is more commonly found in small puppies as their immune system has not reached full ability to fight infections off yet. Puppies can pick this virus up easily if their mother has the virus while they are being born. If this is the case, there is little you can do to save the puppy unless it can make it through the first few weeks of its life and get vaccinated. While there is no cure once your dog catches the Parvovirus, the regiment usually consists of keeping your dog hydrated and maintaining its body temperature. Therefore, it is extremely important to make sure your dog is vaccinated for the Parvovirus before there is any chance that it could catch it.
