Bird-b-gone Keeps Birds Off Bridges

Birds

BIRD•B•GONE KEEPS BIRDS OFF BRIDGES!

Bird•B•Gone, Inc. Bird Control Products keep Pest Birds off of bridges nationwide. Bird•B•Gone, is the leading manufacturer of bird control products in the US. Their products humanly deter pest birds such as pigeons, seagulls and crows from buildings, structures, bridges, highway overpasses and other areas they like to nest and roost.

Bruce Donoho owner of Bird•B•Gone, Inc. says bridges make a perfect nesting and roosting area for birds such as pigeons. They are protected here from interference by people, predators and the elements. The droppings left behind by these birds can erode building materials such as concrete and steel. When asked how to eliminate the birds from bridges and overpasses, Donoho says you must create a physical barrier that keeps the birds from landing. This can be done with bird spikes, bird netting or even shock systems. If the birds have no where to land, they will move on to another area.

Danny Sicurella of Global Bird Management Corp. has used Bird•B•Gone products on many highway bridges throughout Illinois and Arkansas. The Illinois Department of Transportation contracted him to “Bird Proof” highway overpasses that where infested with pest birds such as pigeons and swallows. Danny says that in some cases the feces left behind by the pigeons was 3 – 4 feet deep on the concrete supports. The pigeon feces, over time, will erode the concrete and compromise the support. He used bird netting to secure the bridges from pigeons nesting and roosting. Danny says that protected birds such as swallows are also a big problem on highway overpasses. Once a protected bird takes up “home” on the bridge, it is illegal to do bridge maintenance until the bird has gone. This can really become a safety issue. Danny also used Bird•B•Gone Bird Netting to keep the swallows from making homes on these bridges.

Bird Proofing Your Boat for Winter

Birds

With the lazy days of summer coming to a close, the fall and winter months are quickly approaching.  This means people are hanging up the swimming trunks, putting the beach wear away, and storing the boats for the long winter ahead.  Unfortunately, we are not the only ones preparing for the fall and winter months.  Resident pest bird populations prepare for the cold weather by finding a place to roost and what better place than inside the warm confines of a boat in storage.  Not only do these birds cause a potentially expensive mess, they also leave behind disease carrying bacteria that can land an unsuspecting boater in the hospital or worse.  With the economy in the trenches, Americans are doing everything possible to stretch every dollar, and with the amount of money damage pest birds can cause a boater, it seems irresponsible not to bird proof your boats or watercraft.

In order to properly bird proof your boat for winter storage one has to understand the habits and tendencies of nuisance birds both on and off the water.  Birds, like any other organism, require three basic elements for survival; food, shelter, and water.  Since birds are able to travel quite easily, close proximity to food and water are not as important as a safe haven for roosting.  This is where the problems arise with boats in storage.  Once a pest bird has begun nest construction it is very difficult to get rid of them, this is why it is best to solve the problem before it even begins.

Tips for Bird Toys

Birds

Tips for Bird Toys
The bird toys should be sturdy and strong, since it will be exposed to the tough beaks and pecking of birds. If the toys have certain parts that come apart, they should be avoided. There are several reputed toy companies, which allow buyers to find out whether the colors used in the bird toys are harmless dyes or not. If there are metal parts in the toys, you need to be careful since these can be dangerous to most birds. The popular bird toys include plastic toys with smooth surfaces, which can be cleaned easily. If you are fastening bird toys to the cages, it’s better to use purpose made clips for the purpose.

Mirrors as Bird Toys
Most of small birds like the presence of mirrors in their cages. But it has been observed that many male birds start trying to feed their reflection. In that case, the mirror should be removed. In other cases, birds start bonding with their reflection and turn aggressive when there is no reaction from the mirror.

Bird Toys and Bird Size
The size of bird toys should be decided keeping the bird’s size in mind. Birds tend to break or chew the toys, which are smaller in size, and small fragments may even result in choking the bird. The birds also get scared by the presence of larger toys in their cages. All types of pet birds like ladders, though its size should still be proper. Smaller birds also prefer wheels or swings whereas larger birds may use swings though not as eagerly. Almost all birds enjoy seesaws.
