A lot of people think that you have to have a boat to fish, especially to fish for snook. This is just not true. I have spent the last 5 to 6 years fishing for snook on shore. I have also fished for them in a boat, but I have found out that I am more successful when fishing for snook from shore.

The trick is to know where they will be; I have found over the years to look in the places that other people just go right by. In the summer months, for instance, when the water temperature is in the 80′s, you will find a lot of snook cruising the beaches. I have watched people fishing from the beaches in hopes of catching a big snook, but they fail to realize that the snook are right in front of them. They are so focused on casting their bait as far out as they can, and the snook are only feet off the beach. I also have seen where someone is fishing on one side of a sandbar and the fish are just sitting on the other side. The truth is, these people did not do their homework. They heard somewhere that they can catch snook off the beach so they went and got some fishing gear and some bait and think that’s all there is to it. If you have tried to fish for snook, you know that there is a bit more to it than that. Not to say that you won’t catch one, just not on a regular basis.

The Snake Range includes recreational lands administered by Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, Great Basin National Park, Bureau of Land Management, and private lands. This mountain range includes Mt. Moriah in the north and Mount Wheeler in the south. The streams in this range, located in eastern Nevada, are not widely known for their fishing opportunities. Nonetheless, over 60 miles of perennial streams and an alpine lake with fish provide a variety of fishing experiences. The Snake Range is a rugged mountain range characterized by steeper slopes on its western face and more moderate slopes on the east side. Streams originate at high elevations and often disappear before they reach the basins.

The Snake Range offers a variety of angling experiences from remote headwater streams to alpine lakes. Most coldwater streams remain at or near their carrying capacity of trout and offer a great opportunity to catch a variety of species throughout the year. So the reality is that the best place to fish depends on the type of experience each angler desires. Remember, fishing pressure tends to be highest nearest the roads.

A warm water fishery exists in Pruess Lake (Garrison Reservoir), located two miles south of the town of Garrison, Utah. A Utah fishing license is required to fish in this body of water and can be obtained in Delta or Milford, Utah. Fish in Pruess Lake include channel catfish, common carp, Sacramento perch, Utah chub, and Utah sucker. Some winters are cold enough that the lake freezes over with several inches of ice, providing an angling opportunity for ice fishermen.

Levels of Lead and Cadmium in 17 Species of Fresh Water Fish of Bangladesh

INTRODUCTION

In recent years much attention has been focused on concentrations of some toxic metals in freshwater fish and other aquatic organisms [1-5]. Proper interest has understandably been mainly directed towards commercial and edible species since high concentrations levels of some elements can be hazardous to health. It is also being suggested that some aquatic organisms may provide useful means of monitoring such elemental concentration levels in surface waters and their impact on the aquatic environment [6].

The main sources of lead in the aquatic environment are leaded gasoline, and contributions from mining areas, the latter being typical point sources with a low ionization coefficient.

On the other hand, cadmium is also easily volatilized at the operating temperatures of common industrial processes. Much of the cadmium in the atmosphere results from incineration of ferrous scrap fossil fuel combustion, tire wear and metallurgical processes [7].

The number of rivers, canal and stream in Bangladesh is about 230 with a total length of about 24,135 km and occupying a riverine area of about 9,384 sq.km [8].

In Bangladesh, fish production was about 814,685 metric tons in 1987. Inland fishery contributed nearly 73% of total production and supplies 80% of the animal protein requirement of the country. Fish is now an important source of protein (~20%) for the general population and also represents a lion’s share of foreign exchange by its export to other countries.
